Coat & Jacket Care
Can I machine wash my EQUIDRY coat or jacket?
Yes, EQUIDRY’s equestrian coats and jackets are machine washable at up to 30°C, however we recommend avoiding frequent washing, as this will affect the DWR (water-repellent) coating on your coat. It's often easier to simply wipe down or hose off with a damp cloth. For grease-based marks, spot clean with a bit of washing-up liquid. You can find a step-by-step video guide on machine washing your coat below.
How often should I wash and re-proof my EQUIDRY coat?
Only wash your waterproof garments when it’s really necessary, as frequent laundering can wear down the waterproof coating.
We recommend re-proofing your waterproof garments every few months, or whenever water stops beading on the surface.
Before applying the re-proofer, wipe away any excess dirt and dampen the garment to ensure the treatment is absorbed evenly.
What products should I use to clean my EQUIDRY coat?
For best results, we recommend using a wash and reproofing treatment specifically designed for waterproof clothing to maintain the performance and water-repellent finish.
To refresh your EQUIDRY coat between washes, use Grangers Odour Eliminator.
Do I need to reproof my coat after washing?
Yes, after washing, it’s essential to use a suitable re-proofer and make sure the entire coat is treated. Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
How should I dry my EQUIDRY coat after cleaning?
It is vital that after washing, you give your garment time to fully dry in a warm, well ventilated room, or tumble dry on a low heat setting (check the garment frequently to avoid overheating).
Avoid placing them near or on direct heat sources (like radiators), or exposing them to direct sunlight, as this can damage the fabric and its waterproof properties.
How do I use the two-way zips correctly?
For normal use, you must:
- Place both zip sliders at the bottom of the zip.
- Insert the free zip edge into the very bottom slider. Make sure it’s completely inserted, sitting firmly in the slider. You should feel a soft click when its in place.
- Hold the bottom slider then pull up the upper slider to close the zip.
- You can move the bottom slider up and down as required.
When mounting/dismounting you must:
- Fully open your side zips.
- Open the main front zip from the bottom so the bottom zipper sits above the top of the hip/on the waist.
When riding we strongly advise you check your zips to ensure there is no uneven pressure placed on any one zip and both side zips are fully open as excess pressure could cause the teeth to break.
Failure to follow these instructions could cause your zips to break. For more details, read our Zip Care guide.
How should I store my EQUIDRY coat?
- Drying after use: If your coat is wet, either tumble dry on a low heat or hang it on a sturdy coat hanger in a warm, well-ventilated space. Always let it dry thoroughly before wearing again.
- Storing: When not in use, store your EQUIDRY on a hanger in a dry, shaded area away from direct heat sources.
You can store it in the bag provided, but only once the coat is fully dry. To double-check your coat is dry, open the discreet zip inside the arm and feel between the layers - if it’s dry inside, it’s ready to store. - Top tip: Always hang by the shoulders using a coat hanger rather than by the hood or inner hanging loop, as this keeps the shape perfect.
This simple routine keeps the technical fabric fresh, prevents odours, and ensures your EQUIDRY is always ready to perform at its best.
Tops & Bottoms Care
How should I wash my EQUIDRY tops and bottoms?
For washing base layers, zip ups, leggings, and breeches, machine wash inside out with similar colours on a cold cycle. We recommend using Performance Wash from Grangers Clothing Care Kit to eliminate odours and remove dirt without damaging the water-repellent properties.
Can I use fabric conditioner or tumble dry these items?
No. For base layers, zip ups, leggings, and breeches, avoid using fabric conditioner, tumble drying, hot washes, and dry cleaning as these can damage the technical materials and reduce breathability, stretch, and water resistance.
How can I maintain the fabric’s protection and performance?
We recommend spraying Performance Repel Plus from Grangers Clothing Care Kit every 3-5 washes to restore long-lasting water repellency without the need for heat activation.
Can I iron these EQUIDRY garments?
If ironing is needed, use a cool iron only and avoid printed areas or logos. Do not expose your base layers, zip ups, leggings, and breeches to direct heat or sunlight for prolonged periods.
What is the best way to wash and dry my waterproof trousers?
Washing:
Waterproof trousers are easy to maintain and often don't require a full machine wash. For light dirt or mud, simply wipe them down with a damp cloth or hose them off. For grease-based marks, spot clean using washing-up liquid.
When a deeper clean is needed, machine wash at a maximum of 30°C using Performance Wash from Grangers Clothing Care Kit, which is specially designed to clean waterproof garments without damaging their protective coating. After washing spray Performance Repel Plus directly onto your freshly cleaned, damp garments, focusing on areas prone to abrasion. Avoid using fabric softeners, hot washes, or dry cleaning, as these can reduce the effectiveness of the waterproofing.
Drying:
It is vital, after washing you give your garment time to fully dry in a warm, well ventilated room, or tumble dry on a low heat setting (check the garment frequently to avoid overheating)
Avoid placing them near or on direct heat sources (like radiators), or exposing them to direct sunlight, as this can damage the fabric and its waterproof properties.
